Abstract: <\/b><\/span>A capitalization or \u201ccap\u201d table is a key tool used by start-ups to illustrate the technicalities of an investment. Learn how to read a cap table to determine how value will be divided between founders, management and investors at an exit event such as an acquisition or initial public offering. The talk will also use examples to illustrate evolution of the Cap Table through multiple financing events and scenarios, such as how different deal terms affect valuation and percentage ownership, and how new funding rounds of funding can lead to dilution of founders\u2019 and early investors\u2019 stakes in a company over time.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

About the speaker <\/b>(selected profile)<\/i>:<\/b> <\/span>For 15 years, Dr. Stevens led Boston University\u2019s Office of <\/span>Technology Transfer. He then became Special Assistant to the Vice President for Research for two years before retiring from full time employment at BU. He remains a Lecturer in the Strategy and Innovation Department in Boston University\u2019s School of Management, where he teaches two graduate level, inter-disciplinary courses on Technology Commercialization. Before joining Boston University, he was Director of the Office of Technology Transfer at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, a teaching affiliate of the Harvard Medical School. During his tenure at Boston University, the Office of Technology Development spun out over 50 companies based on the University\u2019s research, a number of which raised substantial amounts of capital, and the University\u2019s licensing income climbed steadily. He is a Guest Professor at Osaka University, Japan, where he teaches G-TEC, an intensive summer course on technology commercialization.
