CIF Canada India Healthcare Innovation Awards

Toronto, March 9, 2021: Canada India Foundation (“CIF”) is pleased to announce the first CIF Canada India Healthcare Innovation Awards, to be presented at the conclusion of the Canada India Healthcare Summit 2021 (“CIHS 2021”), taking place on May 20-21 as a virtual event hosted from Toronto, Canada.

CIHS 2021 is the third Canada India Healthcare Summit (and the 8th in the series of Canada India forums), organized by Canada India Foundation (“CIF”). Co-Organizers of CIHS 2021 are Toronto Rehab Institute – University Health Network, Federation of Indian Chapters of Commerce and Industries (FICCI) and the Consulate General of India.  CIHS 2021 will address the following themes during the Summit:  1) Pandemic Response and Initiatives, 2) Biotechnology and its Contributions to Overcome COVID-19 and 3) Artificial Intelligence and its Contributions to Overcome COVID-19. The objective of CIHS 2021 is to provide a platform for exchange of ideas and initiatives in specific areas of healthcare, and to identify opportunities for Canada and India to collaborate for mutual healthcare benefit.

The CIF Canada India Healthcare Innovation Awards have been established to recognize young innovative entrepreneurs working to address an unmet need in the area of healthcare and assist them towards the next stage of their entrepreneurial development. 

 

  • Potential applicants and candidates for the Award must be a resident of Canada or India.
  • The applicant must be under 40 years of age. In the case of multi-person applications, the lead applicant must fulfill this condition.
  • Entries may pertain to any area of healthcare. However, entries dealing with application of Biotechnology or Artificial Intelligence to address pandemics will be given greater consideration.
  • Entries must clearly establish the innovative element of the application.
  • Applicants may be in any stage of the development process, from concepts and prototypes to finished products and start-ups. They do not yet need to be in a viable business but need to have a viable idea that will make an impact. However, applications from innovators in the post-start-up stage will not be entertained.
  • Details of all entries will be held in strict confidence. A list of all entries will be included in the Summit report  

Up to a maximum of 5 awards will be presented, subject to the number and calibre of the entries. Each award will be named after the sponsor of the award. Each Award will include a plaque and a sum of $5,000.

The last day for submission of the entries is April 30, 2021. Entries must be in the form of a Word document, not exceeding 5 pages and must include a description of the concept and its benefits as well as a roadmap for productizing the concept and bringing it to market. The submitted entries will be subject to an initial review to short-list candidates for the awards. The short-listed candidates may be asked to make a detailed virtual presentation, including the business plan, to a panel of judges, during the week of May 10, 2021. The selected award recipients awards will receive their awards at the concluding session of CIHS 2021 on May 21, 2021. Each award will be presented by the sponsor of the Award.

CIHS 2021 will be attended and viewed by hundreds of professionals in the healthcare industry, healthcare entrepreneurs and investors, leaders from the government and others from the general public interested in healthcare developments.  It will also be covered by the media partners of CIHS 2021 in both countries. All entries will be named in the post-Summit report which will be presented to governments of both countries and also shared widely. Award winning entries will have a synopsis of their concept included in the report, subject to their approval.
